Calcium iodate has the chemical formula Ca(IO₃)₂.

• It occurs in two forms:

  • Lautarite: A colourless salt found in nature.

  • Bruggenite: Another colourless salt.

  • A third mineral form, dietzeite, contains chromate with the formula Ca₂(IO₃)₂CrO₄.

Production and Uses:

• Lautarite is mined in the Atacama Desert and is a significant source of iodine.

• Sodium bisulfite reduction of its aqueous extracts yields sodium iodide, a major source of iodine.

• Calcium iodate is used as an iodine supplement in chicken feed.
