Toldimphos sodium is the sodium salt of 4-dimethylamino-2-methyl-phenyl-phosphinous acid, which is a derivative of phosphoric acid. It finds application in veterinary medicine for the treatment and prophylaxis of various conditions related to parturition, the peri-partum period, developmental and nutritional disorders in young animals, and disorders of bone growth. Additionally, it can address tetany or paresis caused by disturbances in calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous metabolism. Toldimphos sodium is indicated for use in food-producing species such as horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats 1. Its precise mode of action remains unknown, but it appears to stimulate metabolism within the body. The recommended therapeutic dose is 10 mg/kg body weight, administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously. Injections can be repeated up to a maximum of ten times. Notably, there is no specific data on the pharmacodynamic action of toldimphos. While its effect may involve the substitution of deficient phosphorus, it likely arises from multiple metabolic stimulations. Pharmacokinetic studies show rapid absorption and elimination of toldimphos, with minimal bio-accumulation. It is eliminated primarily as the parent compound, and milk excretion is extremely low
